BeFunky-26 (1)

Date and Time: 2nd November, 18:30 – 19:30 IST

Day: Tuesday

Organised By:McGill Department of Physics

Effective collaboration is critical in today’s hyper-connected world of work. But many organizations have flooded employees with indiscriminate demands to collaborate – consuming 85% or more time each week in ways that are burning people out and hurting performance rather than delivering on promises of productivity, innovation and engagement.

In his book, Beyond Collaboration Overload, professor Rob Cross argues that that collaboration today is not just dysfunctional, but crippling. The seminal study by his organization, the Connected Commons – with insights from over 70 of the world’s leading organizations – indicates that our workplace stresses and the marked decline in individual performance has come about because we’re collaborating too much and inefficiently. Cross offers a more purposeful plan for conquering collaborative overload to help us reclaim 18 to 24 percent of our time back.

On 2nd November, Rob will join us to share some of this research and offer practical advice for:

  • Identifying and challenging beliefs that lead to collaborating too quickly
  • Imposing structure in your work to prevent unproductive collaboration
  • Altering behaviors to create more efficient collaboration

…and equally importantly, he will help us reinvest our reclaimed time to collaborate in ways that truly improve our professional success and overall well-being through:

  • Cultivating and then mobilizing a broad network – for innovation and scale
  • Collaborating in ways that energize others – typically a 4x predictor of high performance and
  • Connecting with others in ways that reduce micro-stressors and enhance physical and mental well-being

Join us to make a plan for conquering collaborative overload and reinvesting your time more productively!

Rob Cross, the Edward A. Madden Professor of Global Leadership at Babson College, is a renowned thinker, writer, and speaker whose category-defying ideas have influenced fields as diverse as organizational design, change, collaboration, teams, agility, innovation, and talent optimization.
