Power to Change have joined forces with AimHi to deliver a Climate and Sustainability Leadership Course, designed for the community business sector.

In the final session we’ll be hearing from some of the community businesses already taking community climate action, as well as a chance to hear from our CEO Vidhya Alakeson on our commitments on climate action for the sector.

We’ll also be joined by The National Lottery Community Fund to hear more about their work in community climate action and more information about their Together For Our Planet Fund, which offers grants of between £1,000 and £10,000 for climate projects that reflect what matters to your community.

This session will run from 17:30 – 19:00 GMT to allow time for a Q&A with our panellists. We hope to see you there!

Schedule:

  • First session: Monday 20th September, 17:30 – 18:30
  • Second session: Tuesday 21st September, 17:30 – 18:30
  • Third session: Wednesday 22nd September, 17:30 – 18:30
  • Fourth session: Thursday 23rd September, 17:30 – 18:30
  • The fifth and final session will take place on Monday 8 November, 17:30 -19:00 to coincide with COP26.

What is the course about?

Bringing together the expertise of top-level scientists, educators, behavioural psychologists and expert communicators, alongside the community businesses that are delivering local solutions on the ground, you will come away with a solid understanding of the key climate concepts and the transforming landscape in which community businesses operate, as well as a toolkit of solutions and communication skills.

Why are we doing this training?

Power to Change recognises that the climate and nature crisis is a serious risk to the pursuit of our charitable aims. As a foundation, we have an important part to play in supporting community businesses to adapt and mitigate its effects, and help them harness the huge new market opportunities. Analysis of our existing data suggests Power to Change is already one of the largest funders of climate action grants in the UK. We aim to expand on this and we are also determined to build capacity of our team and stakeholders on the key causes and solutions of the climate and nature crisis, particularly within the community business sector. Which is why, during Great Big Green Week in September, we’re running this training for the entire community business market.

Who is running it?

AimHi has a proven track record of world-class, demonstrably impactful and empowering climate education. With glowing Trustpilot reviews, and support from the UN Environment Programme, the Olympics Committee as well as the likes of Dr Jane Goodall (chimpanzee expert and environmental conservationist), George Monbiot (who has a column in The Guardian about environmental and social affairs) and Chris Packham (TV Presenter and naturalist on shows like BBC Springwatch), we are sure this is a course that you will not want to miss!
